An extraordinary story.
Axel Alletru became paraplegic at the age of 20 following a fall during the Motocross World Championship in Latvia in 2010. He decided to make his accident a life lesson and rebuilt himself through swimming. After 3 years of training, he joined the French Handisport Swimming Federation, and became 12 times French Champion and several times French record holder in freestyle swimming. But the passion for mechanical sport never left him.
In 2020, he then took on a new challenge, that of competing against able-bodied people and winning the 30th edition of the Dakar Rally which took place from January 5 to 17, 2020.
A strong project.
The goal of this project is to show that despite the difficulties that life has in store for us, it is possible to get through it, bounce back and experience great adventures. He spreads this message thanks to the #jepeux2020 movement on social networks to push people to exceed their limits and achieve their dreams.
“ Behind the impossible, there is always a possibility .” Axel Alletru It was therefore accompanied by a team of 4 people made up of a co-pilot, a physiotherapist, a technical and mechanical coordinator, and a communications manager that Axel embarked on this new adventure. To compete among the able-bodied Axel and his team have chosen an SSV category vehicle – a vehicle halfway between a quad and a buggy – with a specific adaptation for Axel's disability. In fact, the fixed accelerator pedal is equipped with a plate which allows you to place your left foot on the brake. Having no sensitivity to the foot, it is the movement of Axel's leg which allows braking.
A successful challenge.
Despite his handicap and the difficulties he encountered during this sporting challenge, Axel and his team came 7th in the general SSV ranking, first French and first in the standard SSV class (restricted to 120 km/h). A victory which proves that with passion, ambition and work. Everything is possible.
